Acai Bowls – What, Where, When, How?

So about five months ago, I had my first acai bowl. This bowl of happiness and sweet, sweet fruit base (mixed with granola, bananas, peanut butter, and cacao nibbles) changed my life.

This was my first (and best) acai bowl. It was from a small place in LA, Ubatuba. (This bowl is the medium sized Felix with extra PB and no bee pollen). This acai bowl was my favorite due to the icy acai; sometimes the acai is too watery and becomes “soupy”. Some people enjoy more of a liquid acai though. Acai bowls are ALL ABOUT PREFERENCE.

An acai bowl is basically a thick-blended smoothie, composed of acai fruit and sugar (usually).

It can be topped with anything, literally. Most acai bowls contain granola, fruit (banana, strawberries, blueberries), peanut butter or honey, chia seeds, and sometimes even cacao chips.

Acai bowls sometimes appears as ice cream, sometimes even tastes like ice cream. Its a much healthier alternative, and can be eaten for breakfast!!

This particular acai bowl is from Jamba Juice; it was actually quite great (not what I was expecting). The acai bowl contains: acai, coconut, granola, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, honey, and peanut butter. It was a bit more liquid than I like. IMG_1795

This next acai bowl is from a place in Weston, The organic corner. This acai bowl was NOT good. The acai was very watery, the peanut butter was not smooth OR crunchy, and the granola wasn’t granola…it was more of a cereal.

I recommend using Yelp Reviews to find the best acai joints new you!

When is it best to eat a bowl? In the morning. Acai bowls do have a lot of sugar, so its best to eat an acai bowl early in your day to burn the carbohydrates.

*The fruit in the acai bowl contains sugar, so don’t freak out when you see a bowl has 69 grams of sugar, its mostly the fruit!
